Hey Alex,

How was that Vacation?? All The Stress is Gone now so back to work,, right... :)

Many have installed Lower Radiator Hose Coolant Heater's. Most posts that I have read,, say,, that they are pretty happy with this type of Block Heater.

Here is a link to where Rolfo installed one on his Dong Feng Tractor:

http://ctocf.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa....4&page=10#12269

It's my understanding that it is best to install at Lowest Point,, so that the Heater Element will always be submerged in Water,, or else Heater Element burnOut.

Different Size Heater'f For Different Size Hose's,, so measure your hose and go down to Parts supply and pick one up. Pretty easy install,, just cut section out of Lower Radiator Hose,, and Install with Hose Clamps.

When you do this,, please take picture's for us,, to help other's,
Joe :)

Joe, the vacation was short, since then I have cultivated my field and had several hours play time with my new tractor.
The rad hose heater won't work in mine as the hose runs horizontal. Think a block heater is my only choice.

Hey Alex,

Oh Drat,,, :-/,,

Well,, then,, I have heard of one's that have put a Block heater in one of The Freeze Plug Hole's. I think that I remember somebody putting one in the Block Drain as well.

I'm thinking,, the Block Drain,, might be a good choice,, since it is allready Tapped for Thread's. At least,, that is the way,, that it is on my YangDong Y380T Engine.

The Trick would be to configure it so that you have a Functioning Block heater,, and also be able to Drain The Block,, when needed to Service the Cooling System.

The Freeze Plug Access,, might also be a good way,, just don't know,, so hopefully other's will offer you their Idea's as well.

Keep us updated Please,, and be sure to take picture's of this,, as This will be a very Interesting Mod to Make for Winter Cold Operation,
Joe :)

talked to JDB Equip, in Ontario. These guys are good. They suggested running a hose from the thermostat housing to the drain plug in the block and install the inline heater there. They said there hasn't been a block heater made that will work with this tractor yet. Temp here today is +32 C. Don't need heater yet.

I was close to getting one of these last year and may this year. It is attached to the oil pan with adhesive. Further down on the link is detailed instructions and specs. I think I was quoted about $100 CAN.

Hope it helps

Hey Alex,

That sounds like a Really Good Idea to me. Open up the Block Drain,, before hooking up the Inline Heater,, and Then Close The Block Drain,, and Disconnect Heater,, once The Engine get's going.

Don't forget to Close that Block Drain Though,, as it may affect The Coolant Flow's Proper Direction.

I bet this system,, will warm the Engine Quickly,, and Be sure to take pic's for us,, to show us how it is done,
Joe :)

Alex-

A simple and cheap solution is a lower radiator hose heater, mine cost about $30US, installs in minutes, and all you have to do is plug it in for 1/2 hour or so.

Alex,

Have you considered a battery heater too? If so, I wonder if it would be practical to install a battery heater with your tractor's battery box design...

Wow, nice tractor and proud owner :)

My big Valmet has a 65 hp sisu engine, serviceman adjusted diesel pump so I guess it is 75 hp :)

Hey PJ,

When you get a chance,, could you take a pic for the member's on Where exactly your Block heater is Located on Your Engine? It may help those that want to install one on their Engine.

I wish that All the Chinese Diesel Tractor Engine's would have one,, or at least a Plugged Port,, so that the Owner could install one easily,
Joe :)

PJ,

That is one fine looking machine! 8-)

I have a Perkins diesel tied into my off-grid electrical system. What a great engine and it's built in the USA in Georgia. :)

What type of engine is in that Foton 404? I install frost plug heater in all my tractor. They use the Changchai 390 - 490 series engines. Works very good.

Looks good! Better than a lower hose heater which I have installed

Hey Ray,

Thank you so much for the Picture of your Block Heater Install.

For the Benefit of other member's that have never done this,, can you explain how you removed the Freeze Plug,, and went about installing the Block Heater?

It really looks good Ray!!!! Nice, Clean,, and Just Plug it in!!!

By the way,, how to you determine which Freeze Plug to use,, or does it matter? Maybe just pick out a Freeze Plug by Best Location and Access?

A documented "How To" on This,, would benefit so many of our member's that Live in Cold Region's,
Joe :)
