Al Gore, is on the Band Wagon of Global Warming. Promoting his New Book, contesting Global Warming and how to prevent it. You know the Fellow, that got the Popular Vote, and then Didn't even contest the Election at the end!!!!
He and many others are saying that it is caused by something that is way up high in the upper atmosphere, something called the OZone Layer, and that it is being killed by pollution ~ Smoke, Smog, Aerosol's, and the list goes on and on....
I'm sure those Graduates, have got the answers cornered, and have sumed it all up, with the final answer in their respective Note Books.
But I haven't heard anybody say anything about AsPhalt, Concrete, Steel and all of the other building materials, that are holding the Heat From Our Sun, and then functioning as Our Little Earth's Heater, throughout the Day and the Night.
Anybody that has ever ridden a motorbike will tell you that going from the country, into the City,,, that it is about 5 to 10 degrees hotter in the City, than the Country, and that is just a small city. It doesn't matter whether it is day, night, Summer or Winter either. It is always much warmer in the City.
What I am getting at is simply this. We are steadily laying down more and more Asphalt, and Concrete, which is holding the heat, and preventing Our Planet's Surface from Breathing and ventilating itself. Plus as the Citie's get steadily larger, more Asphalt, Concret, Brick and Steel and other metals, that hold the heat in, and as we are steadily cutting down more and more Trees, that Shade and Cool our Little Planet, I am thinking that these contributants are as much or more to Blame for our Global Warming, than that Socalled Ozone Layer, that is Miles above all of the Average Person's Head.....
If you don't believe me, then go out and put your hand on the Concrete, Asphalt, Brick, and Steel,, in the middle of the Day, and then again, a few hours after The Sun Goes down. They are still Hot or at least warm, Especially, the Asphalt, and Concrete,,,and they act as a Heater all throughout the Day and The Night.

Sure, it IS hotter in the city but you're forgetting that heat RADIATES back into space from the earths surface at night. It's supposed to equalize at whatever the average earths temperature is...something like 65 degrees.
So, while it may be warmer IN the city, that heat is supposed to radiate away at night without heating up the atmosphere in general.
Do "I" believe that...not entirely. I'm sure that some of that heat IS convected into the "country" by winds heating that area up too.
Also remember this...MOST temperature readings are taken at airports. Airports have grown into MASSIVE chunks of concrete AND are now surrounded by city. So, I'm sure this too is causing an increase to the recorded temperature readings.
I'm also pretty sure that there IS crap in the atmoshpere causing a general global warming too as seen by all the arctic ice melting a LONG way from any city caused warming.

This is very interesting to me, as I have not seen any studies done at all in relation, to the amount of Asphalt and Concrete, being increasingly laid down every day, all across our nation and the intire Planet, in regards to the overall increase in the Planet's Overall Temperature.
I'm thinking, that The roadways, are acting as Heating Strips, to the Air Masses, that are continueing to move across them steadily, every hour, of everyday.
Since, the temperature falls 3 degrees, for every 1000 feet, above our planet's surface, and continues to get steadily colder, to somthing like 200 degrees below 0 once outside the Earth's Atmosphere. I am much more persuaded to think that the extra heat source is coming from our Planet's Surface.
Also, keep in mind, that as Asphalt and Concrete are laid down, on the surface more and more everyday, The Trees, that provide Shading to cool our Surface are being cut down at an increasing rate also, which brings about a double whammy effect, on an overall increase in our Global Temperature. I once read, that a Tree provides about 15% in a cooling effect.
I am not saying that it is Fact, but rather putting forth the speculation, that our Roadways, and our Cities, that have so much Asphalt and Concrete, covering the ground, are acting like heat strips and heaters throughout the Day and The Night, heating the Air Masses, that is constantly moveing across the surface.
Now this is just my thoughts, and it would be interesting to hear what others thoughts on this is.

Well...since you asked for our thoughts...personally I think it's inconsequential.
The earth is what...70% water? That leaves 30% as land. Out of that, what percentage is "paved"? Not a lot I'd bet...maybe 1/2 of 1%???
Does it HAVE an effect? I'm sure it does, but how much is the question. Look at earth from space, you can't tell that men live here. The deserts make up MUCH more "PAVEMENT" than all the cities combined.
It IS an interesting idea though...do a study. Get some kid to do his doctorate thesis on it.

I am sure that world wide we are generating more heat and poluting the atmosphere than say 100 years ago. So, we go into a period of high temps and dry spells. That will thin out the population along with the wars, pestulance and famines and we can start all over again.

Sun Is Getting Hotter, Satellite Data Indicate By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ASHINGTON -- The Sun is getting hotter, adding heat to the global warming that has been linked to greenhouse gases that trap heat in the atmosphere. Solar radiation reaching the Earth is 0.036 percent warmer than it was in 1986, when the current solar cycle was beginning, said a study published on Friday in the journal Science. The finding is based on an analysis of data from satellites that measure the temperature of sunlight.
The increase is only a small fraction of the Sun's total heat, but over a century, it would be enough to seriously aggravate problems of global warming, said Dr. Richard C. Willson of Columbia University's Center for Climate Systems Research.
Dr. Willson said most researchers expected greenhouse gases to warm the planet by 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit over the next 100 years. Solar irradiance could add another 0.72 degrees, he said.
Other experts agreed, although some argued that the satellite data used by Dr. Willson may be suspect.
"This is a significant increase," said Dr. John Firor of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo. "It would increase the rate at which we go into warming."
He said that based on current estimates, the solar heat increase found by Dr. Willson would increase that warming trend by about 20 percent.
But whether the Earth is being heated by an increase in greenhouse gases, which are produced by the burning of fossil fuels, is still not universally accepted by scientists. Although studies show that the Earth has warmed about one degree in the last century and that the trend is continuing, some scientists say it is part of a natural cycle for the planet.
Dr. Willson said his finding supported the idea that a variable Sun could play a powerful and natural role in the Earth's climate.

Basically the sun is fusing hydrogen into helium in the core. The core maintains hydrostatic equilibrium which is a balance between gravity and pressure and so it doesn't just keep collapsoing under gravity. However, the act of fusion means that 4 H particles go into 1 He particle, so the number of particle reduces, which reduces the pressure in the core. Consequently it has to collapse just a smidge because it has to balance with gravity. The act of core collapse increases its temperature (potential energy goes to kinetic energy) and thus H fusion rate increases. Conseqently, the outer layers of the sun expand to compensate for the extra energy and the sun grows.
As I said, it is a subtle effect and nothing to worry about - but it is happening all the same.

You got it all wrong! A bigger sun means hotter weather so we all know that SUVs and cow flatulence caused the sun's expansion. Ask Al Gore!

Lord have mercy,, The Sun is Really Getting Bigger down here in The Swamp!!!!!
Steadily Inching it's way to that 110 F Mark.
I was working on the Back Fence Line Ditching project again today,, and saw a Really Big Moccasin's Head in the Moat,, as I approached with the Big Plow in the Ground.
It's Hottier Hadie's Down here,, and for those that don't know how Hot that is,, It's Pretty Hot,, and can easily get a Heat Stroke in this Weather.
I really do need to get a small Refrigerator out in the Garage/Shop,, to have something cool to drink now.
Even though it was really really Hot,, It was still fun getting on the Little 224 to get some work done.

Thermometer still hanging in there about about 105 F. We'll see if the Sun get's any bigger. I suspect that it will,, but usually by July 4th,, it usually doesn't get much hotter,, but we'll see how it goes this year.
Where do you suppose Al Gore got that flame thrower, anyhow?
I need me one for huntin' cats.
Keep in mind that the flamethrower method ruins the pelt!
Al probably picked it up in Vietnam where he said he saw combat! (Maybe he saw combat on the TV in the air conditioned office he and his bodyguard where in.)
I'm getting overrun with cats too. Since it hasn't rained here for a month until today I figure a potato gun will have to do rather than the preferred flamethrower and napalm...
...I love the smell of burning cat hair in the morning!

Below freezing global warming temperatures are forecast here in the temperate coastal northwest. That's unheard of in October!
Even so, we must put absolute faith in the infallibility of Al Gore and Barack Obama when they speak of global warming. After all, they both won a Nobel peace prize!

It was Still Hot down here on The Alabama Gulf Coast today ~ The Frog's, Snake's, & Mosquitoe's are in Hog Heaven...
Hope you and all had a chance to watch some good College Football Game's today. There were some good one's too. I like College Football,, and look forward to it every year.
Couldn't Believe That The Arkansas Hog's Beat The Auburn Tiger's today. I just couldn't believe it. Enjoyed watching the Alabama,, Ole Miss Game. And The Florida ~ LSU game topped it off. Tim Tebow,, got knocked out a couple weeks ago,, but he played the whole game. He's a tough guy. I've never met him,, but seems to be a Class Act.
