Still trying to work out how to drive on this forum. I've had a DF254 since 2002 which has worked hard and faithfully for me, mainly slashing and fencing. Will take delivery of East Wind 354 with FEL, spreader bar, ripper, and new slasher shortly. Will do up 254 and use as slasher while the 354 helps with landscaping.

We used to have 26 acres of hilly country, survived bad heartattack and through family pressure downsized to 6 acres.

Hobbies include local volunteer rural fire brigade, GIS have just equipped our four fire trucks with GPS tracking as well as our 10 handhelds so we can track both trucks and members during fires.

John,

Welcome to The Owners Club! :)

It's good to have a one more DF owner in the group. I've never seen a DF in the flesh but hopefully I will some day.

I hope to hear all about your tractors and experiences.

So far it looks like you and me are the only ones in this forum that own two Chinese tractors! 8-)

Thanks PJ, Rolfo and Wayne for your welcomes. Wayne my two tractor status may change quickly, I have been advised by my better half that one tractor should be enough. Anyway I don't take delivery of the new one until September 10. It is going to a field day before I can get it. I'm happy about this as it will mean the machine will get a try out before it is delivered. When the 254 was first delivered a rear wheel fell off the first time I took it up a steep hill. This was two days after delivery, it had taken me that long to work up the nerve to tackle the hill. Anyway I had just reached the top when off came the wheel and over we went.

The company I got it from was great they had just moved premises and the quality control wasn't up to scratch yet. Anyway they had a replacement machine delivered the next day.
I have stuck with that company ever since.

Today is the first day of our fire season and it is 31.6 degrees celcius already, not bad for winter, our normal winter temperature ranges from a minimum of 2 and a maximum around 21 to 24.

Oops! I was so happy towork out how to upload the pictures I forgot too put some words in.
Life has been busy, we haven't had rain for months and the fire season has started out bad. Today will be 35 degrees C and strong winds. I think I mayhave sold my 254 it will a shame to see it go. Fanbelt broke on 354 after 20 hours, it split into layers.

Hey John,

Thank you so much for the Pic's of your HomeStead,, and I for sure like what Your Place looks like!!!!

It take's us all some time to figure out how to post the pic's,, the first time,, but after that,, it gets a lot easier. Also,, if you haven't tried the Bulk Loader at PhotoBucket,, it is a lot faster for me.

I know that you will miss your 254,, but that 354,, is such a Great Tractor. Were you able to catch the Fan Belt break in time? Mine lasted a little bit longer,, but almost broke before I was able to notice it.

I also noticed the Cutter hooked to the 354,, and it sure does look like it is made very strong.

Also noticed the Shop and Home. You guy's sure have a Nice HomeStead,, and Please keep them Picture's coming,, cause the guy's here,, sure do like to see them,
Joe :)

Thanks Joe

The Hanmey slasher is a big improvement although we don't have anything to slash, its even too dry for weeds to grow. I was suprised about the belt going, a piece of nylon frayed off edge and by the time I went back to shed it came apart but didn't break. I take it from your comment Joe that this isn't uncommon on new 354s. I was happy that I didn't have to pull front end apart to replace I didn't like that on the 254. I followed your instructions re Photobucket and it was easy including the bulkloader. I'll have to buy a digital camera my phone isn't very good as a camera. I've just been doing light work on 354 until I've done my first 30 hours and have done first full oil change. Whats normal practice for running in on 354.

Hey John,

I didn't mean to lead you astray on my comment,, about the Fan Belt. I just meant that some go faster than other's. In my Case,, mine should have been changed out at about 200 to 250 hour's,, but almost broke into,, at about 300 or so hour's. Don't remember exactly the #,, but it is in My Serviceing the 224 in The Jinma Section. Mine started coming apart so fast,, that it amazed and alarmed me that it would fall apart so quickly. So best to change them out Early rather than waiting too late.

I sure am glad that My instruction's on the Picture Posting was good enough for you to understand and follow along. That make's me feel good,, as I never know,, if other's are understanding what I am trying to say... :)

John,, I would try to go along with the Recommended Break In on the New Tractor in your operation's manual.

There is a recommended breakin method in My Jinma Manual. Which basically says to do light to Medium duty work for the first 31 hours. The go through all the Changeing of Oils, Filters, Valve Lash, Clutch adjust. And it would also be a pretty good time to retork the headbolts as well in my opinion.

All that said,, I had to put my tractor to work,, as soon as I got mine. I did check all of the Oil Level's,, and then hooked up the Box Blade,, and went to work after the Bulldozer. My place is a New HomeStead,, and I had to start from Scratch.

I told my Dealer to get that thing serviced "Ready To Work",, and He is Long Gone now,, I think that they did a pretty good job getting my tractor ready to go. He made his Fortune off of The Chinese Tractor's,, and Moved on down to The Bahama's. Living a Life of Leisure,, Playing with the Pretty Girl's,, and Sip'n on those Pinea Collata's... ;D

If I had had the time though,, I would have gone through the BreakIn period,, like my book recommended.

Don't spend a lot of money on a Digital Camera,, just one that will work good,, and has some telephoto setting's,, so that you can take it to the shop,, and take lot's of pic's for us,, when you are doing your service,, and Lot's of Picture's of your Place,, and anything else that you wish to share with us,
Joe :)

PS ~ I need to look up exactly where Queensland is located.. ;D

Thanks Joe

Thats the approach I've been taking with the run in. Our dealer is also good at the pre-delivery and even requires all new owners to go through a detailed intro to new machine which was good as I learnt things about my old machine I had'nt known. Queensland is the home of the Great Barrier Reef and all things tropical, its also full of contrasts having great beaches as well as desert regions. Enter Wights Mountain Australia into Google Earth and that will show you my neigbourhood.
